Independent Living Resources becomes Disability Rights and Resources
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., April 18, 2012 — To better reflect their scope of services, Independent Living Resources of Greater Birmingham has changed their name to Disability Rights and Resources. The organization has been serving the Birmingham community since 1980.
“We provide resources and advocacy for those with disabilities, offering tools and education for voting, employment, schooling and nursing home transitions,” said Daniel Kessler, executive director. “The new name informs the community of our stand for disability rights, and our equal emphasis on education and resources.”
In May, the organization will be relocating to a new building in the Civil Rights District of downtown Birmingham. Kessler said, “We’re excited about the move and partnering with neighbors in the district.” Kessler stated, “We are here to serve the community, and the name change and relocation will help us do this even better.”
A grand opening celebration is planned for summer 2012.
